Seeking Permission

Dear Kid Cudi, Myself and my partner Will are from The Fitzwimarc School studying media studies. The reason we need to make a music video is purely for educational purposes. We have been set the task to create a music video for our A level course. Due to your song ‘Day n Night’ meaning so much to us since its release in 2009 we have decided to contact you in order to ask permission to use your song in order for us to make a music video. We are planning to take the music video in a different direction to what you have due to the fact that we do not have access to special effects to put onto the video. we hope that you take this in consideration for us. Yours sincerely Will and Alfie This is the email we have sent to the artist to gain permission to use his song.

Textual analysis of previous A-level work - Henry Nathan (A Grade)

Lyrics - The video illustrate the lyrics in this music video. The song is about regretting making mistakes and the video shows a character showing remorse for the bad things he has done, such as arguing with a girl, and beating someone else up very brutally. Music/sound - The tempo in the song is reflected well in the pace of things like camerawork and editing. A video is seen as more effective if the timing of the music matches that of the camerawork and editing which can explain why this person got high marks. Genre - The genre appears to be an indie/pop song, which is reflected in the video. For example, indie songs tend to be set out in some narrative that relate to the lyrics which can be followed. The music video itself tends to be fairly low budget, so there are often a small amount of actors and it is usually filmed at locations rather than sets. Costume also tends to be quite basic and modern as the tight budget may not allow them to buy certain apparel. Cinematography - ...

Risk Assessment

During the production of the music video Will and I are going to be driving in my car which could be dangerous as filming while driving could make me lose concentration while driving. We have decided that all clips recorded during the ride in the car will be done by Will as i will need full concentration on the road in order to prevent an accident. Also some shots will be taken of me whilst driving which will have to be done while I am lip syncing etc. I will not be looking at the camera as i will need to concentrate on the road.  Some shots will also be taken of the car whilst I am driving down the road, we will make sure that the headlights are always on whilst driving at night as this will enable me to have a full view of the road and Will recording the shots form the outside. As well as this I will make sure Will and I are wearing seat belts whilst in the car as this will prevent serious injury.  We are planning on doing some shots in the sea at Southend-on-Sea howe...

Pete Fraser's Music Video Creation Theory

Step 1 'Limber up' - Learn the software and techniques you are going to use such as the editing software and learn how to lip sync. Practice with getting the lip syncing to look as good as possible, as badly done lip syncing can ruin the entire product. Other activities that can be done include analyzing and making notes from other music videos, both done by professional artists as well as previous students who have done the course. Another task to do and possibly the most rewarding in terms of how to learn making a music video is doing a preliminary task where you can experiment and make a shorter version of your final product to get to learn at first hand all of the equipment and techniques you will use. Step 2 Choosing the right track - He recommends to not pick a popular song, or your favorite song. This is because if you pick a popular song, the music video will also most likely be popular and therefore people will be aware of what the original looks like. As a result if...

Toxic Analysis - Alfie

Toxic Analysis Lyrics The lyrics for the song Toxic establishes the point that Britney is now ready to move on from her teenage years and now is looking to show her more adult life as a pop star.  The lyrics to the song Toxic are filled with sexual remarks just to reinforce the idea of her as a sexual image. The lyrics are as follows: There’s no escape, I can’t wait I need a hit, baby give it to me You’re dangerous, I’m lovin’ it With the taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slippin' under With a taste of the poison paradise Music Toxic is an example of pop music in the 90’s this involved high tempo beats that could be used as a dance track. This is the reason for the fast-paced music video Genre Due to the pop genre, that Toxic is this means that dance and movement has a high involvement in the video, the young target audience for the video are seeing Britney doing these famous dance moves and therefore they are becoming mor...
