Website Analysis - Katy Perry

This is the homepage to Katy Perry's website, it is very colourful and draws the audiences eye towards the pop star in the middle of the screen. At the top right hand side of the page there is a navigation bar in which the users can use to travel around the page with ease. This allows the users to easily get to the pages they want and therefore causing less frustration among the audience and website users. This website holds lots of information about the star and dates of her concerts that are upcoming. There is a tab on the top right of the navigation bar on the screen in which holds the information about the pop stars social media sites. This is a prime example of intertextuality as this has her other media sources in her website. The amount of social network involved around the pop star on this website shows that she likes to keep in touch with her fans and therefore having a user friendly website allows that. The user friendly website allows the users to gain access to ...

Website analysis - Nike

Upon entering the website you are immediately faced with images of products by Nike with "SHOP NOW" being displayed next to said products. On top of the website there is also links to merchandise for men, women, boy and girls. The intention of this is to immediately draw in potential buyers and give them a very simple route to buying their merchandise. A few moments after visiting the website a pop-up appears on the screen asking if the viewer wants to sign up to a newsletter, followed by the necessary boxes to fill in information to sign up for said newsletter. They claim to offer exclusive deals which may entice the viewer into signing up for the newsletter. When the pop up appears, it greys out the website, making it unusable so you have to address the newsletter pop up before continuing to browse the website. This is an effective way to force the viewer into getting more involved with the brand which may lead to them spending more money at the company. The website fol...

Planning Diary WIP

June/July/August 2017 - Quickly made a preliminary video to familiarize ourselves with the equipment and techniques we can utilize for our actual video. After we created our preliminary we then started to brainstorm ideas for our first music video idea. We initially thought of using the song Paper Planes by M.I.A and the video itself would be many different videos of things to do with summer holidays such as sunny beaches and resorts etc. But when we found out that footage for this would've been scarce we had to think of a brand new idea. September 2017 - We started to brainstorm for a new idea we then thought about making a video where it contrasts the day life of a busy town to the night life. We then tried to find a song where we could execute this idea. We then settled for Kid Cudi's Day 'n' Night. We then began to think of numerous shots that we could do including driving around a busy street at various points during the day as well as some time lapse shots of ...

Settings and Locations

Will and I decided to use southend sea front as one of our main locations to shoot our music video as this is very colourful and fits into the vibrant colours of the original music video made by Kid Cudi. the colours are from the arcades that are built along the seafront and we have tried to get a lot of these lights in the shots of our music video a reasonable amount of times to keep the viewers engaged and suit the music genre. We also wanted to do all the filming at night, the reasons for this is that the night would bring out all of these colours and make them look far more vibrant. Also the night has connotations of loneliness. Some of the lyrics in the song are about "the lonely nights" and we want to represent that as best we could in our setting and location. One of the other locations we use is the main roads around our area of Rayleigh, here is where we capture the street lights as we drive down the roads, the reason behind using this in our shots is the fact that...

Digipak Mood Board

This is our mood board tat we have created, the reason we have chosen these designs is due to the fact that they are very interesting in design as thy are very artistic. The artistic style is very interesting in these digipaks as they are very focused on the actual art involved and have tried to make the digitalpaks very aesthetically pleasing. The other pictures are those related to Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) a celebrated festival in areas of the world such as Mexico. The reason we have chosen to use the style of this art is that we both are interested in this kind of festival and enjoy the aesthetics of this festival and we would like to incorporate it on to our digipak for our audience to consume. Sometimes the art on a digipak tends to all link up to make one big image, however we intend to use a different image for each panel on our digipak.

Digipak Ideas

This is some of the art Alfie created that we thought would look good on a digipak This is the first idea Alfie had for the digipak.

Digipak template

This is a template for a 6 panel digipak. Where it says 'FRONT' is where we would put a front cover of sorts. This would most likely be a piece of art that is appealing to look at and is also hopefully eye catching. Inside the digipak is where we would put the bulk of our information about our song. This would include things such as credits for the people who were responsible for the creation of any part of

Digipak definition

A digipak is the booklet or page inside the CD case that holds information about the album or tracks on the CD. This can have  the lyrics to songs, pictures of the artists and even art that has been made specifically for the album. This is designed to give the audience extra information about the artist or the album and also give them something memorable to have about the album, the could be a poster or a pice of art.

Meet the group

We are Alfie and Will, we are creating a music video for our A2 media coursework. On this blog we will make posts about what we took into consideration when making our video, this is also where we document most of our planning as well.

Findings from survey

11 people have taken part in our survey, our results show the following. Our average age that has taken part are 11 to 18 year olds (81.82%) and 64% of participants are female where 36% were male. The most popular genre of music among these participants was rock music with just over 1/3rd of participants voting for this genre. When asked what participants gained from music videos. The most popular gratification was entertainment, with 90% of participants voting in favour of this. The popular opinion is that music videos do not need to be expensive in order to be expensive, this is useful for us as we won't have a high budget to use. The results of the survey show that people tend to think that camerawork and aesthetics are the most important thing to make a music video good. Also the survey results indicate that making the music video based off the lyrics really depends on the song rather than doing it all the time. When it comes to what kind of music video to make (narrativ...

Intended Target Audience

The intended target audience is going to be fans of the pop genre in music. This could be people of any age and therefore there can be different age groups watching the video so will and I cannot make the video suitable to only one age group. The intended audience is not specified to be male or female however, this genre seems to have more male than female fans. therefore our music video could attract more male audiences than female. This could be argued as some pop artists that are male have a strong female following so therefore the video could be intended to target males but however attract female target audiences attention. Even though many age groups are being targeted we have intended to have the age range between 14-35 as this is around two or three different generations of people. This is due to the fact that if we were to aim to target people for outside of this target audience it would be very challenging to get them to watch this pop genre and also this is a smaller target a...
