Representation in music videos can vary in different ways due to many factors, these could include target audience, genre and many more. This then prevents there being a set way in which different parts of society are represented in music videos. However, there is a general consensus in music videos about how age is represented.
The stereotypes of the elderly generally translates to music video as well. This includes things like the inability to do normal things, having medical complications, and using objects associated with the elderly i.e. a knitting set and mobility scooters. For example in Avicii's "Waiting For Love" there is an elderly man seeming to be unable to complete menial tasks such as getting into bed, there is also a small scene where the elderly man is taking many different pills for a supposed medical condition(s), also the man uses a mobility scooter to get around outside.
The stereotypes of young people can equally offensive in that they are shown to be mean towards others in most case and uncontrollable. On the other hand they can also be shown to be very loving and caring, there is usually no in-between of these shown. In the music video for Marshmellos Alone he is shown to be getting bullied by several of the other characters in which they are teenagers. This causes them to be shown to be horrible to each other just because they are different. However, they can be shown to be caring and nice towards other people, this is shown in the example above 'waiting for love' as at the end their are teens caring for the old man in the video.
