Evaluation 4

We used several technologies in the making of our project this is the software and hardware that we had to use in order to create the project to a high standard. We used this in the construction, research and planning and evaluation.

Research

Will and I clearly use the hardware and software belonging to the standard computer in order to research the song and artist that we have chosen to recreate the music video 'Day and Nite' about. This played a huge roll in order to help plan, create and execute the filming of the project and helped us keep track along the route of the creation of the project.

YouTube helped us to research different genres of music videos, we explored the many codes and conventions that came with each genre e.g. rock music was accompanied by a performance rather than a narrative, and it was fast paced and very energetic in its filming and editing. We decided to settle on a hip-hop genre, as it was more simple to do given our very low budget.

Survey monkey helped us gain an insight into who our audience is, we posed several questions that allowed us to learn things like the age of our audience, their opinions on music videos and the genres they prefer.

Spotify allowed us to explore a lot of songs of the same genre at once. We listened to a lot of songs of the same genre until we settled on a song that we felt would have been appropriate for our music video.

Wix allowed us to create our website. This was vital for one of our ancillary tasks and learning how to use Wix was very helpful as it helped us create our final design for our website easily.

Planning
Microsoft Paint was used to edit together some pictures to put on the blog, it made some posts feel less cluttered when they have been collaborated together.

Survey monkey also helped by deciding what to put in our music video, it helped us decide whether to do a performance or narrative video. This helped our planning of our music video further.

Blogger allowed us to get all of our ideas down in one place that both of us could share. Here we could also put all of our research that could then be used in the planning of our own video from when we take inspiration.

YouTube also helped us as we could view the real music video to the song we chose and seeing the pace and style of what Kid Cudi chose. It helped us to form our own ideas and taking inspiration as to what the frame of our music video should look like.

Evaluation
YouTube allowed us to revisit our music video and allowed us to review it as many times as we wanted. We also could take screenshots of our music video to add in our blog and review these pictures in our evaluation.

Survey monkey was used as we needed screenshots of audience feedback. Audience feedback was hard to come by, and the survey we did was one of the only things that we could put on our blog as feedback. We took screenshots of the survey and added them to our evaluation to review our overall feedback

Blogger allowed us to upload our evaluations, as well as all of our work in general. We chose this because it was an easy way for both of us to access a platform where we can post the work that needed to be completed as well as it being easy to be marked by our teacher.

Todorov's Narrative Theory

There are 5 stages to a narrative (story) and Todorov states that every plot tends to follow said stages. These include: Equilibrium: The start of the narrative. Typically it shows a world with little to no disturbances and usually shows a happy beginning. Disruption: Then the plot takes a turn and there is a certain part of the narrative that ends up taking the story into disruption. Realisation of the Disruption: The characters in the narrative will then become aware of the disruption mentioned previously. They tend to take action or plan to take action as soon as they realise what is going on. Process of restoring the equilibrium: The plot then follows the main character(s) trying to combat the disturbance and they aim to restore the world to what it was (it's original equilibrium). Restored Equilibrium: At the end of the narrative the world is back to normal and normality can resume once more.

Evaluation 3

There is currently no feedback on our music video as well as the digipak and the website. The only communication we have with our audience is from a survey about music videos in general. We learnt that our main audience were teenagers that mostly all agreed that music videos made songs much better. This is good news for us, as we have picked a genre of song (hip-hop/rap) that generally appeals to a younger target audience Results also show that they thin the main purpose of a music video is to entertain, as a result, we have attempted to make the music video as entertaining as possible. We did this through trying to make it aesthetic as well as relatable. The survey also shows that people think aesthetics is also very important, therefore we tried to focus on some interesting shots in our music video to try and match what people think.  Results also indicate that our audience tend to enjoy both music videos with narrative and performance at the same time. As a...

Intended Institution Analysis

This is a post that explains what intended institution we will want to have. This consists of the TV institution in which we would like the music video to be presented on. A lot has to be taken into account when choosing the TV station, this would consist of the kind of viewers that watch the stations. For example it would be a bad idea to have the music video shown on a classical music channel when the target audience for the video is between 16-30 aged people. also the viewers of that channel would most likely not like the video so therefore it would get bad reviews and a name. Will and i have chosen to use the TV channel 'VEVO' to present our video as this is a well known music channel and the majority of viewers of the channel are within our target audiences ages. this would be a very effective channel to use as it would most likely get out to the intended audience and also would act as a way of getting the video some popularity and feedback from the audience.
